A Look Back: Hillsborough's History

In 1874, people tried to start a coal mine in Hillsborough. However, the coal they found wasn't very good quality, so it was hard to sell. The mine closed down in 1879. After the mine closed, Hillsborough became almost like a ghost town for a while.

Things changed a lot after World War II. Hillsborough started to grow again and new homes were built. A local school, Hillsborough Public School, opened its doors in 1963, helping the community grow even more.
