Hillsdale, Tennessee facts for kids
Hillsdale is a small place in Macon County, Tennessee. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own city government like a big town.
A Look Back: Hillsdale's History
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Hillsdale was a busy and lively community. Most people worked in farming. The community had schools, a post office, and many shops.
Starting in the late 1950s, farming became less profitable. New jobs in factories and service industries became more common. Because of this, fewer people lived in Hillsdale. Many shops and even the post office shut down. People moved to bigger towns and cities to find work.
Hillsdale is located between the towns of Hartsville to the south and Lafayette to the north. The Masonic Lodge in Hillsdale is still standing on Hillsdale Circle. It is an active group in the community today.
