Hillside is a small community in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. It's known as a "populated place," which means it's an area where people live but isn't officially a city or town. The name Hillside comes from its location on a hillside near Date Creek. A post office was first opened here on July 31, 1888. Hillside is about 3,858 feet (1,176 meters) above sea level.

Getting Around Hillside

Hillside is connected to other areas by several roads.

  • Arizona State Route 96 links Hillside to Arizona State Route 97 and Bagdad to the west.
  • Yavapai County Route 15 goes east from Hillside to Arizona State Route 89 at Wilhoit.
  • Yavapai County Route 62 heads south from Hillside to Arizona State Route 89, located northeast of Congress.

Hillside also has a railway line. It is part of the BNSF Railway's Phoenix Subdivision. This means trains pass through the area.

Hillside Elementary School District

The Hillside Elementary School District serves the community.

Hillside Elementary School

The district has one school called Hillside Elementary. It is a K-8 school, meaning it teaches students from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade.

  • The school has one administrator and one secretary.
  • One teacher teaches all the students, with help from one teacher's aide.
  • About 20 students are enrolled in all grades combined.
  • The school operates on a four-day schedule, from Monday to Thursday. It is in session for 145 days each year.
  • As of 2020, the average teacher salary was $48,582.
  • Besides Hillside, the school district also covers the area of Yava.

School Leadership and Future Education

A three-member board oversees the school district, with one member serving as president. After finishing eighth grade at Hillside Elementary, students continue their education at Prescott High School. This is in the Prescott Unified School District. State law requires Prescott High School to accept students from nearby rural primary school districts like Hillside. The bus ride to Prescott can take about an hour.

As of 2015, the Yavapai County Education Service Agency helps the district with much of its office work. This means the district only needs to hire two part-time staff members. This helps keep administrative costs lower for each student.
