Village History
Early Mentions of Hindu
The village of Hindu has a long history. It was first written about in the year 1832. At that time, its name was spelled Hindo. This shows that the village has existed for nearly 200 years.
Connection to Emmaste Manor
For a long time, Hindu village was connected to a large estate. This estate was known as Emmaste Manor. Manors were like big farms or estates owned by wealthy families. The people living in Hindu village were likely part of the manor's community.
Changes Over Time
Villages sometimes change their boundaries or merge with others. Hindu village also experienced such a change. From 1977 to 1997, Hindu was not a separate village. During these years, it was considered a part of the nearby village of Sõru. After 1997, Hindu became its own village again.
