Hinkleville is a small community located in Ballard County, Kentucky, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would.
Hinkleville's Early History
Hinkleville began in 1858. At first, it was called Hinklesville. It quickly became an important place where people in the area could trade goods and do business.
In March 1868, the community officially became recognized. After the American Civil War, the spelling of the community's name changed from Hinklesville to Hinkleville.
The community had its own post office starting in 1869. However, it closed in 1905. After that, mail for Hinkleville was handled through the nearby town of LaCenter. It is believed that Hinkleville was named after a person called James Hinkle.
