Hiroki Aratani's Football Journey
Hiroki Aratani was born in Takaoka, Japan, on August 6, 1975. After finishing high school, he began his professional football career.
Starting Out: Urawa Reds and Kawasaki Frontale
In 1994, Hiroki joined J1 League club Urawa Reds. The J1 League is the top professional football league in Japan. However, he didn't get to play in any matches there. Other goalkeepers, Hisashi Tsuchida and Yuki Takita, were chosen to play instead.
In 1998, he moved to Kawasaki Frontale, a team in the Japan Football League. This was a lower division at the time. Still, he didn't play any games, as Takeshi Urakami was the main goalkeeper for the team.
Finding His Place: Omiya Ardija
Hiroki's career changed when he joined Omiya Ardija in 1999. For a few years, he was still a backup goalkeeper. He didn't play any matches until 2002, when he finally made his debut.
In 2003, he again didn't play much because Eiji Kawashima was the main goalkeeper. But when Kawashima left the club in 2004, Hiroki became the team's regular goalkeeper. That year, Omiya Ardija finished second in the J2 League (the second division) and was promoted to the J1 League!
Hiroki continued to play regularly in the J1 League for Omiya Ardija. However, in 2007, he got an injury and lost his starting position to Koji Ezumi. He didn't play any matches in 2008.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2009, Hiroki moved to Consadole Sapporo, another team in the J2 League. He played in many matches during the 2009 season.
After that, he joined Ventforet Kofu, also a J2 League team, in 2010. In 2010, Ventforet Kofu also finished second in the J2 League and was promoted to the J1 League for the 2011 season. Hiroki played some matches for them in J1. He decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2011 season.
