Hisashi Tsuchida (土田 尚史, Tsuchida Hisashi, born February 1, 1967) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented goalkeeper who played for Urawa Red Diamonds for many years.

Playing for Clubs

Hisashi Tsuchida was born in Okayama, Japan, on February 1, 1967. After finishing his studies at Osaka University of Economics, he joined a football club called Mitsubishi Motors in 1989. This club later became known as Urawa Red Diamonds.

He quickly became an important player, acting as the goalkeeper for many matches starting in 1991. In 1992, the old Japan Soccer League changed into a new, exciting league called the J1 League.

Tsuchida often competed with another goalkeeper, Yuki Takita, for the main spot on the team. He was the regular starting goalkeeper in 1994 and 1995. However, he got an injury in 1996, which meant he played less often.

From 1997 onwards, he had fewer chances to play in games. By 1999, he wasn't able to play in any matches at all. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2000 season, at the same time as his friendly rival, Yuki Takita.

Playing for the National Team

In 1988, when Hisashi Tsuchida was still a student at Osaka University of Economics, he was chosen to play for the Japan national "B team". This "B team" is like a second-string team, often used to test new players.

He played one game in the 1988 AFC Asian Cup with this team. However, the Japan Football Association does not count this as an official game for the main Japan national team.
