One of the most important was Società Sportiva Nola, a professional Italian football club. It started in 1925 as Unione Sportiva Nola and later changed its name in 1990. The Story of Football Clubs in Nola
Early Clubs: From U.S. Nola to S.S. Nola
U.S. Nola: The Beginning
U.S. Nola was created in 1925. Their first official competition was the Terza Divisione in 1925–26. After that, Nola joined the ULIC Serie A league. They won their southern division and then beat Caserta Campania to reach the finals against Palermo. Nola won that game 6-1! This win sent them to the central-south final against Virtus Roma. The winner of that match would play for the national title. Nola won on the field 2–0, but the sports court changed the result. This happened because one of their players, Spiltzer, was not allowed to play.
After playing in the Prima Divisione in 1928–29, Nola mostly played in amateur leagues. But then, in 1984–85, they were promoted to Serie C2, a professional league. After several good years in this fourth-tier league, Nola was promoted again to Serie C1 after the 1989–90 season.
S.S. Nola: A New Name
In 1990, the club changed its name to S.S. Nola. They played in Serie C1 for several seasons. Their rankings were 13th (1990–91), 10th (1991–92), 14th (1992–93), 16th (1993–94 – they were saved from relegation that year), 6th (1994–95), and 16th (1995–96 – they were relegated). In 1996, S.S. Nola ran out of money and had to close down.
New Beginnings: Virtus Nola to Comprensorio Nola
After S.S. Nola closed, a new club called Virtus Nola 1925 was started in 1996. They took over the sports rights of another team, "Castelsangiorgio," to play in the Eccellenza league. In 1997, the club changed its name again to Sanità Nola. This happened after they took over the sports rights of "Sanità Napoli" to play in Serie D. However, the team was relegated back to Eccellenza Campania.
In the summer of 1998, Sanità Nola became Comprensorio Nola. In the 2000–01 season, this club had a great year! They won the Coppa Italia Dilettanti, which is a big amateur cup. This win meant they were directly promoted to Serie D. They beat a team called U.S. Caratese 2–1 in the final. Before that, they had also won the Regional Coppa Italia Campania.
In 2002, Comprensorio Nola transferred its sports rights for Serie D to another club, S.S. Juve Stabia.

More Clubs: Boys Nola to Atletico Vesuvio
Boys Nola 2004 was founded in the summer of 2004. They quickly won their leagues, taking the Seconda Categoria title in 2004–05 and the Prima Categoria title in 2005–06. They then finished 3rd in the Promozione league in 2006–07. Thanks to a merger with another club called Atletico, the team was able to play directly in the 2007-08 Eccellenza Campania season. They changed their name to A.S.D. Atletico Nola.
Atletico Nola played in Eccellenza Campania from 2007–08 to 2009–10. They won their division at the end of the 2009–10 Eccellenza season and were promoted to Serie D, which is the highest amateur league in Italy. After the 2010–11 Serie D season, the club was relegated back to Eccellenza. From the 2011–12 season, they started playing in Eccellenza Campania in San Giorgio a Cremano. In the summer of 2012, the club changed its name to A.S.D. Atletico Vesuvio. This meant they no longer had a direct connection to the city of Nola.
Nuvla San Felice: A Short Chapter
In the summer of 2011, a new club called Nuvla San Felice was formed. This happened when G.S. Capriatese (a club founded in 1968) moved its base and its Serie D sports rights from Capriati a Volturno to Nola. It also merged with a football academy called San Feliciano from San Felice a Cancello.
The club was first named G.S.D. Nola Città dei Gigli, but then changed to its current name. The club then asked to move from Capriati a Volturno to San Felice a Cancello. However, it was still considered the main team of Nola for the 2011–12 season in Serie D/I, where they finished 6th.
In the summer of 2012, its Serie D sports rights were transferred to Gladiator, and so the club was dissolved.
Real S.M. Hyria Nola: Another Try
For the 2012–13 season, the main football club in Nola was Real S.M. Hyria Nola. This was thanks to President Rosario Gaglione, who brought the former Turris team from Torre del Greco to Nola.
In the summer of 2013, Gaglione gave the team's sports rights to F.C. Real Città di Vico Equense. This meant the club was no longer part of Italian football.
Who Are the Fans?
During the 1980s and 1990s, when Nola Calcio was doing very well, there were three main fan groups: Ultras Nola (started in the 80s), Indians Nola (1994), and Nasty Boys (1995). After Nola's financial problems, the organized fan groups became less active. But after almost ten years, new groups started to form when the club reached the Eccellenza league again.
Nola supporters are friends with fans of Juve Stabia, Savoia, Salerno, Sora, and Rutigliano. However, they have rivalries with fans of Avellino, Casertana, Turris, Ebolitana, and Stasia.
The Current Main Club: Sporting Nola
After Comprensorio Nola sold its sports rights to Juve Stabia, a new club called F.C. Sporting Nola was founded to take its place.
Sporting Nola's Journey
A.S.D. Sporting Nola was started in the summer of 2002 by football fans from Nola. It was first known as F.C. Sporting Nola.
The team has been steadily moving up through the leagues. They started in Terza Categoria Campania in the 2002–03 season. In the 2013–14 season, they were playing in Promozione Campania.
