Hitchcock was officially planned out in 1881. When it was first being settled, it had a couple of different names, like Clarkville and Altoona.
The town was eventually named after Charles S. Hitchcock. He was one of the first people to own the land where the town was built. A post office has been serving the community of Hitchcock since 1881.
