Hitoshi Nakata (born January 17, 1962) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Nakata played as a midfielder during his career. After he stopped playing, he became a football coach and manager for several teams.

Playing Football
Hitoshi Nakata started his football journey in school. He played for Nihon University High School from 1977 to 1979. After high school, he continued playing football at Tokai University from 1980 to 1983.
Professional Player Career
Nakata began his professional career in 1984. He joined a team called Fujita Industries. He played for them until 1991. During his time with Fujita Industries, his team reached the finals of the Emperor's Cup twice, in 1985 and 1988.
Later, from 1991 to 1993, he played for Otsuka Pharmaceutical. This was his last team as a professional player before he retired.
Becoming a Coach
After finishing his playing career, Hitoshi Nakata decided to become a football coach. He started coaching at Otsuka Pharmaceutical in 1993, which later became known as Tokushima Vortis.
Coaching Different Teams
Nakata coached several well-known Japanese football clubs. He worked with Yokohama F. Marinos from 1996 to 1999. Then, he coached Cerezo Osaka from 2000 to 2003. From 2004 to 2007, he was a coach for Nagoya Grampus Eight.
Taking on Manager Roles
Sometimes, Nakata also took on the role of a manager, which means he was in charge of the whole team.
- In 2005, he managed Nagoya Grampus Eight for a few months.
- From 2008 to 2014, he worked as a Technical Advisor for Tokushima Vortis. This role involves giving advice on how the team plays and trains.
- In 2015, he joined Yokohama FC as a Technical Director. Later that year, the team's manager had to leave for health reasons. Hitoshi Nakata stepped in to manage the team for the rest of the season.
- He managed Yokohama FC again in 2016. The original manager returned, but then had to leave again due to a heart condition. Nakata took over once more. He continued managing the team until October 2017.
