Hiwasse was a small community in Benton County, Arkansas, United States. It was once considered a census-designated place, which means it was a special area defined for collecting population data. In 2010, about 497 people lived there.
Hiwasse is known for two historic buildings. The Hiwasse Bank Building is located on Main Street, near Arkansas Highway 279. The Banks House is found west of Hiwasse on Arkansas Highway 72. Both of these buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, meaning they are important historical sites.
In 2007 and 2008, the people of Hiwasse had a big discussion. Two groups disagreed about whether Hiwasse should become its own official town. In the end, the voters decided not to make Hiwasse an independent town. Instead, the nearby town of Gravette officially took over the community in 2012. Now, Hiwasse is a neighborhood within Gravette.
