Hobbs is a small, unincorporated community in Tipton County, Indiana. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Hobbs is also part of the larger Kokomo metropolitan area.

The Story of Hobbs

Hobbs was started in 1878 by a man named Henderson Hobbs. He built his farm right next to the Lake Erie & Western Railroad. This railroad was important for travel and trade back then.

Early Buildings and Churches

A Christian church was started in Hobbs in 1884. They used an old school building that had become a blacksmith shop. In 1896, this building was turned into their church. Later, a brand new church building was built in 1911.

Another church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, began in Hobbs in 1909. This group had separated from a church in a nearby town called Windfall.

Life in Early Hobbs

By 1914, about 200 people lived in Hobbs. The main jobs in the community were working in mills. These mills processed flour and wood. The post office in Hobbs has been open since 1876.
