Hocking Hills Reservoir, often called Rose Lake, is a beautiful body of water. It is found near Old Man's Cave in the Hocking Hills area of Hocking County, Ohio, United States. This reservoir is an important part of the Hocking Hills State Park.
Finding Hocking Hills Reservoir
You can reach Hocking Hills Reservoir by hiking about 3 miles (4.8 km) from Old Man's Cave. To get there, you cross the Old Man's Cave gorge and follow the signs. There isn't a direct road to the lake. However, you might find a shorter path from a simple campground that is close to the lake.
This reservoir is about halfway along a trail that connects Old Man's Cave and Cedar Falls. You'll find it specifically on the Upper Gorge Trail. The reservoir was created when a dam was built.
Local Legends and Park Rules
There's a local story that the lake is haunted. People say a mother looking for her lost child fell off a cliff here after dark. Since the park closes at dusk, it's hard to check out these stories. Only those staying at the nearby primitive campground, or who visit during the day, can explore the area.
The Name Rose Lake
The valley where Hocking Hills Reservoir is located is called Rose Hollow. This is why many local people call the reservoir Rose Lake.
