Hollandtown is a small, unincorporated community located in Brown County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's part of the town of Holland. You can find it along County D, and sometimes maps just call it "Holland." An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or village.
A Look Back: Hollandtown's History
Hollandtown was founded a long time ago, around 1848. It was started by a group of people led by a man named Father Adrianus Dominicus Godthardt. They came all the way from Holland (which is now called the Netherlands). This group also helped settle another nearby community called Darboy.
Why They Chose Hollandtown
Father Godthardt and the people who traveled with him on a ship called the Libra arrived in Little Chute, Wisconsin in 1848. They were looking for a better place to settle. Father Godthardt wrote in his journal that when the immigrants saw the land they were supposed to live on, they were disappointed.
He wrote that the place had "bad connections," meaning it was hard to get to. It also didn't have any shops or businesses, and the land wasn't good for farming. Because of these problems, no one wanted to stay there. So, they decided to find a new home, which led them to establish Hollandtown.
