Hollie Cook (born in 1987 in West London, England) is an English singer and keyboard player. She was part of the all-girl punk and reggae band called The Slits.
Since 2010, Hollie has also made music on her own. She works with a music producer named Prince Fatty. In 2011, she released her first reggae album, which was named Hollie Cook. She calls her own music "tropical pop." Hollie loves reggae music and female singers from the 1960s, like Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon.
About Hollie Cook
Hollie Cook's father is Paul Cook, who was the drummer for the famous band Sex Pistols. Her mother, Jeni, sang backup for the band Culture Club. The singer Boy George is Hollie's godfather. Hollie's family background is English on her father's side and West Indian on her mother's side.
Hollie joined The Slits when the band got back together. She played on their music collection called Revenge of the Killer Slits in 2006. Later, she worked with other artists like Ian Brown and Jamie T.
In 2011, she recorded her first solo album, also called Hollie Cook. She worked with Mike "Prince Fatty" Pelanconi on this album. Other musicians like George Dekker from the Pioneers and Dennis Bovell also helped. The BBC said her album was "one of the most enjoyable reggae albums of 2011." After that, she recorded a special radio show for the BBC. She also appeared on the TV show Later... with Jools Holland.
In 2012, Hollie Cook was chosen to open for the Stone Roses' reunion concerts. This was a big honor for her.
A special "dub" version of her first album was released in May 2012. Dub music is a type of reggae music that focuses on instrumental parts and effects.
She also sang a song called "You Know I'm No Good" for a special album in 2012. This album was a collection of covers of songs by Amy Winehouse.
Hollie's second album, Twice, came out in May 2014. Fans helped fund this album through a website called PledgeMusic. Her third album, Vessel of Love, was released in January 2018. This album featured other artists like Alex Paterson and Jah Wobble.
Hollie still describes her music as 'tropical pop'.
