Holly Krieger facts for kids
Holly Krieger is a math professor at the University of Cambridge in England. She also works at Murray Edwards College. She studies interesting math topics like how numbers change over time in patterns. She is also famous for explaining math on the popular YouTube show Numberphile.
Becoming a Math Expert
Holly Krieger grew up in Champaign, Illinois, in the USA. She went to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign for her first degree. Later, she earned her master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She finished her Ph.D. in 2013. Her big research project was about "Primitive prime divisors in polynomial dynamics."
After her Ph.D., she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2016, she became a lecturer at the University of Cambridge.
Awards and Recognition
In 2019, Holly Krieger was chosen as the Mahler Lecturer. This meant she gave many talks about math across Australia.
In 2020, she won a special award called the Whitehead Prize. The London Mathematical Society gave her this prize. They recognized her important work in understanding how numbers and patterns change. She also helped prove a big idea about certain curves in math.
Her work with other mathematicians, Laura DeMarco and Hexi Ye, also won an award. Their paper, published in a top math journal, received the 2020 Alexanderson Award. This shows her important contributions to the world of mathematics.
