Where to Find Holmby Park
Holmby Park is right in the heart of Holmby Hills, Los Angeles. It's surrounded by streets like Club View Drive, Beverly Glen Boulevard, and Comstock Avenue. The famous Los Angeles Country Club is also nearby. You can even spot a very large house called The Manor right across the street from the park!
The Story of Holmby Park
The land for Holmby Park was given to the City of Los Angeles in the 1920s. This gift came from the Janss Investment Company, who were developing the Holmby Hills area. In 1954, the park was officially dedicated by the Daughters of the American Revolution, a group that helps preserve American history.
Because of its location, many famous people have visited Holmby Park over the years. In the 1950s, the famous singer Frank Sinatra often spent time there. Later, in the late 1960s, Ronald Reagan, who was then the governor of California and later became president, lived very close by and visited the park many times. He even came back to the park in the late 1990s. The composer Nelson Riddle used to meet his son there in the 1980s to talk.
In 1996, there was a disagreement at the park. Some trees were cut down to help the grass on the lawn bowling green get more sun. However, people who loved nature were upset because they felt the trees, planted long ago, should not have been removed. The park management decided to support the lawn bowlers, as the Holmby Park Lawn Bowling Club is open for everyone to join.
What You Can Do at Holmby Park
Holmby Park has lots of cool things to do! You can have a barbecue, play in the children's area, or enjoy a picnic at one of the tables.

Golfing Fun
The park is home to the Armand Hammer Golf Course. It's named after Armand Hammer, a famous businessman who lived in Holmby Hills. This course used to be called the Holmby Park Pony Course. Signs at the park remind everyone that only registered golfers are allowed on the putting green.
Lawn Bowling Club
Holmby Park also has the Holmby Park Lawn Bowling Club, which started in 1927. This club is very popular and has about 150 members from many different countries!
Movies and More
Holmby Park has even been featured in a movie! The film High School Hellcats (from 1958) was filmed on Comstock Avenue, with the park visible in the background. A poet named James L. McMichael also described the park in his 1994 poem, calling it "triangular, genteel."
