The Story of Holy Bagel
How It Started
Holy Bagel began in 1999 in Jerusalem, Israel. Two friends, Ari Dubin and Zev Wernick, started it. They wanted to open a bagel shop that felt like the ones in America. Both Ari and Zev had worked in restaurants in Israel before. They knew a lot about the food business. They also both moved to Israel from the United States. This move is called Aliyah.
Growing the Business
In 2002, Holy Bagel opened a second shop on Jaffa Road in Jerusalem. This was in a spot where another famous donut shop used to be. Later, business at this location became very slow. This happened after a sad event at a nearby restaurant.
Holy Bagel kept growing after that. They opened more locations in Jerusalem, including Ramot, Geula, the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, and the Old City. They also opened shops in other cities like Beit Shemesh, Modi'in, Ra'anana, and Netanya.
