The Church of the Holy Trinity is a very old and special church located in Old Wolverton, which is part of Milton Keynes, England. It has parts that are from the Saxon and medieval times, making it a truly historic building. The church you see today was mostly rebuilt between 1809 and 1815.
A Look at Holy Trinity's Past
The Church of the Holy Trinity has a long history, going all the way back to the 12th century (the 1100s). It sits on a hill overlooking the Ouse river valley. Close by, there was once a motte-and-bailey castle, which was a type of early Norman castle built on a mound.
In the early 1800s, the original medieval church building was replaced. Work on the new church started in 1809 and finished in 1815. The builders kept the central tower from the old 14th-century church. However, they covered it with new stone to match the rest of the updated building.
Right next to the church, there is a house built in 1729. This house later became the vicarage, where the church's priest lived. The front door of this house has special stonework. This stone came from a manor house from the 1500s that was no longer standing. It even includes the family crest of the de Longueville family. Some pieces from the even older church building were also used in the house.
The church was officially recognized as a special historical building on June 12, 1953. This means it is protected because of its importance.
