Homai

Homai is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand. It is surrounded by other areas like Manukau Central, Wiri, Hillpark, Clendon Park and Manurewa. Homai used to be governed by the Manukau City Council. In 2010, it became part of the wider Auckland Council area.

History of Homai

In the early 1920s, people living in Manurewa wanted a second train station. A local resident named John Dreadon and his neighbours worked hard to make this happen. They even donated land and money for the project.

The new train station opened in 1924. It was named Homai, a suggestion from Auckland resident Maurice Harding. "Homai" is a Māori language word that means "to give (to me)". This name was chosen to honor the generous gifts of land and money that helped create the station. Over time, the area around this train station became known as Homai.
