Wiri is a busy area in Auckland, New Zealand. It is mostly known for its businesses and factories. Wiri used to be part of Manukau City. But in 2010, all of Auckland's local councils joined together to form the 'super city'. This big change made Wiri part of the larger Auckland region. The area was named after a chief called Takaanini Wirihana.

Getting Around Wiri
Wiri is an important place for moving goods around.
Wiri Inland Port
The inland port in Wiri helps connect road transport with the Ports of Auckland. These ports are located further north on the Waitemata Harbour. The inland port helps reduce the number of trucks that need to drive through the busy Auckland city centre. This can cut down truck trips by up to 100,000 each year.
Train Facilities
Wiri is also home to a large train maintenance centre. This centre was built as part of a project to make Auckland's trains electric. The facility cost $100 million and is used to look after the electric trains. It was built on 4.4 hectares of an old quarry. The Mayor of Auckland officially opened it on July 5, 2013.
There used to be a Wiri railway station. It opened in 1913 but closed in 2005. Not many people were using it. The train maintenance facility was built on the land where the old station used to be.

St David's Church was built a long time ago, in 1880. A part called a chancel was added in 1883. The church walls have records of people who lived in Wiri many years ago.
