Honey toast, also known as Shibuya toast, brick toast, or hanito, is a yummy Japanese dessert. It started in the Shibuya area of Japan during a time when Japan's economy was growing very fast. You can often find it served at karaoke bars in Japan. This sweet treat is also very popular in other parts of the world, especially in Taiwan and Singapore.

How is Honey Toast Made?
The main part of honey toast is a special kind of bread, often called pain de mie (which is a soft, square loaf). First, the inside of the bread loaf is carefully taken out. Then, this inside bread is cut into small cubes.
Both the bread cubes and the empty bread shell are then made crispy and golden. This is done by brushing them with a mix of butter and honey. After that, they are baked in an oven until they turn a beautiful golden color.
Once baked, the crispy bread cubes are placed back inside the hollowed-out loaf. People can fill the toast with many different yummy things! Common fillings include fruits that have been soaked to make them soft and juicy, toasted nuts, various kinds of sweet syrup, or fluffy whipped cream.
To finish this delicious dessert, a scoop of ice cream is usually placed on top. In Taiwan, their version of honey toast is often simpler. It is usually topped only with condensed milk, a creamy custard, or even cheese.
