Hong Kong Note Printing Limited (Chinese: 香港印鈔有限公司) is a special company. It prints all the paper money, called bank notes, for the three banks that issue money in Hong Kong. It also prints bank notes for Macau.

The factory where they print money was started in 1984. It was built by a company called Thomas De La Rue in an area called Tai Po Industrial Estate. In April 1996, the Hong Kong Government bought this factory. They used money from the Exchange Fund to buy it. After that, the factory started working under its current name.

Who Owns the Company?

In March 1997, the Hong Kong government sold some parts of the company. They sold 15% of the company's ownership to a company called China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (CBPMC).

Later, in October of the same year, the government sold more parts. They sold 10% of the company to each of the three banks that print money in Hong Kong. These banks are The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. This means the government sold a total of 30% to these three banks.
