Who Was Honoré III?
Honoré III was the oldest son of Princess Louise Hippolyte of Monaco. His father was Prince Jacques.
Becoming Prince
In May 1732, Honoré moved to Paris, France. He lived there with his father. Soon after, he was officially named the Prince of Monaco.
A man named Antoine Grimaldi, also known as the Chevalier de Grimaldi, helped rule Monaco for Honoré. Antoine acted as a "regent." This means he governed the country because Honoré chose to live in Paris. This arrangement lasted for about 50 years, until Antoine passed away in 1784.
Family Life
On June 5, 1757, Honoré III married Maria Caterina Brignole. She came from a very rich and powerful family in Genoa. Genoa was a republic at that time.
Honoré and Maria Caterina had two sons together. However, they later divorced in 1770.
His Children
Honoré III had two sons:
- Prince Honoré IV of Monaco (born May 17, 1758 – died February 16, 1819). He married Louise d'Aumont and had children.
- Prince Joseph of Monaco (born September 10, 1763 – died June 28, 1816). He married Marie Thérèse de Choiseul and also had children.
