History

Hoover started to grow in the early 1870s. This happened when the Eel River Railroad was built through the area. The railroad helped connect the community to other places.

The community was named after its founder, a person named Riley Hoover. He played a key role in setting up the area.

A post office was opened in Hoover in 1873. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This office served the community for many years. However, it closed down in 1928.
