Horacio Álvarez Mesa was born in Avilés, Spain, on November 30, 1881. His parents were Florentino Álvarez Mesa and Carmen Menendez-Valdes Muñiz.
He began his studies in Philosophy and Letters at the Central University of Madrid between 1900 and 1901. After that, he studied law and became a qualified lawyer in 1904.
Career and Public Service
After finishing his studies, Horacio Álvarez Mesa worked as a lawyer and a journalist. He was also a liberal politician in the Asturias region of Spain.
From May 1 to July 14, 1908, he served as the municipal secretary for his hometown of Avilés. This role meant he helped manage the local government.
He also showed his support for education and arts. From 1911 to 1914, he was the President of an arts school called "Sociedad fundadora y protectora de la Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Aviles." This group helped establish and protect the School of Arts and Crafts in Avilés.
Journalism Work
Horacio Álvarez Mesa was an active journalist. In 1917, he started writing for the newspaper El Progreso de Asturias (which means 'The Progress of Asturias'). This newspaper was started by the linguist and journalist Julian G. Orbón.
Later, in 1932, Horacio Álvarez Mesa also worked with another newspaper called El Adenlatado. Through his writing, he shared his ideas and kept the public informed.
Later Life
Horacio Álvarez Mesa passed away in July 1936, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.
