About the Horim Museum
How it Started
The Horim Museum was started by a person named Yun Jang-seob. He loved old art and wanted to protect it. In July 1981, he created the Sungbo Cultural Foundation. This group helped buy old and important art pieces.
Then, in October 1982, the Horim Museum first opened. It was in a part of Seoul called Daechi-dong. At first, it only used one floor of a building.
Moving to a New Home
Later, in May 1999, the museum moved to a bigger place. Its new home is in Sillim-dong, which is also in Seoul. The new museum is much larger. It has about 4,600 square meters of space.
The museum has four main areas where art is shown. These are the Archaeology Gallery, the Ceramics Gallery, the Metal Art Gallery, and the Painting and Book Gallery. There is also a special gallery and a souvenir shop.
