Horst Assmy (born 29 November 1933 – died 14 January 1972) was a talented German footballer. He played as a forward, which means he was one of the main players who tried to score goals for his team. Horst played for several clubs in both East and West Germany during his career. He also represented his country in international matches.

Early Career in East Germany

Horst Assmy began his football journey in East Germany. From 1952 to 1953, he played for a team called Einheit Pankow. After that, he moved to Motor Oberschöneweide for the 1953–1954 season.

His most significant time in East Germany was with Vorwärts Berlin. He played for them from 1954 to 1959. During these years, he played in 102 games and scored 27 goals. This made him a very important player for the team.

Playing for His Country

Horst Assmy also had the honor of playing for the East Germany national team. He was part of the team from 1954 to 1959. He played in 12 international matches, which are called "caps" in football. In these games, he scored 4 goals for his country.

A New Chapter in West Germany

In 1959, Horst Assmy made a big change in his life. He moved from East Germany to West Germany. This was a significant decision at the time. After moving, he continued his football career with new teams.

He joined Tennis Borussia Berlin in West Germany, playing for them from 1960 to 1961. Then, he moved to Schalke 04, a well-known club, where he played from 1961 to 1962. At Schalke 04, he played 20 games and scored 9 goals.

Horst's final club was Hessen Kassel. He played there from 1962 to 1965. He appeared in 51 games for Hessen Kassel, scoring 10 goals. Horst Assmy passed away on 14 January 1972, at the age of 38.
