Hossein Dehlavi (Persian: حسین دهلوی) was a famous Iranian composer. A composer is someone who writes music. He was also a conductor, which means he led musical groups like orchestras. Dehlavi lived from September 30, 1927, to October 15, 2019. He wrote many different kinds of music, including pieces for orchestras, operas, and ballets. He even wrote an opera especially for children!

About Hossein Dehlavi

Hossein Dehlavi was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1927. He started learning music from his father, Moezeddin Emami. His father was a student of a music master named Ali-Akbar Shahnazi. Hossein later studied how to compose music at the Tehran Conservatory of Music. A conservatory is a special school for music. His teachers were Hossein Nassehi and Heimo Tauber.

He also learned about traditional Persian music from Abolhasan Saba. From 1957 to 1967, Dehlavi was the main conductor of the Persian Fine Arts Administration Orchestra. This orchestra was also known as the Saba Orchestra.

Dehlavi began teaching at the Persian National Music Conservatory in 1957. From 1961 to 1950, he was the director of this conservatory. A famous conductor named Ali Rahbari was one of his students. In 1992, Dehlavi started the Plectrum Orchestra in Tehran. This orchestra had nearly 70 musicians who played traditional Persian instruments.

Dehlavi created many musical works. These included pieces for Persian instruments and orchestras. He also wrote music for voices, choirs, and orchestras. He composed two operas and one ballet. For the Year of the Child in 1979, he wrote an opera for children called Mana and Mani.

His wife, Susan Aslani, and his son, Houman Dehlavi, are also well-known musicians.

Later Life and Passing

Hossein Dehlavi passed away on October 15, 2019, at his home in Tehran. He had been living with Alzheimer's disease for several years.
