Hossein Mahini (born September 16, 1986) is a former Iranian football player. He was known for playing as a defender.

Playing for Clubs
Early Career and Zob Ahan
Hossein Mahini started his football journey with Esteghlal Ahvaz. He played there from 2005 to 2010. After that, he joined Zob Ahan in 2010. With Zob Ahan, he helped his team reach the finals of the AFC Champions League in 2010.
Time with Persepolis

On July 7, 2012, Hossein Mahini signed a two-year contract with Persepolis. This is a very famous team in Tehran. People knew Mahini for his great speed and how well he could cross the ball.
In May 2014, he extended his contract with Persepolis until 2017. However, he went on loan to Malavan in October 2014. This was to complete his military service. He played for Malavan starting in January 2015.
After finishing his service, he came back to Persepolis in May 2016. He continued to play for them. Hossein Mahini left Persepolis in January 2020 after playing for the team for seven years.
Playing for Iran
Youth and Senior Teams
Hossein Mahini first played for the Iran national under-23 football team. With this team, he won a bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Games. This was a big achievement for him and his team.
Later, he was chosen to play for the main Iran national football team. This happened for the first time under coach Carlos Queiroz. On June 1, 2014, he was part of Iran's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Even though he didn't play in the games, being part of the World Cup squad was a huge honor. Iran's team was eliminated in the group stages of that tournament.
