Hossein Mahini (Persian: حسین ماهینی; born September 16, 1986) is a former Iranian footballer. He played as a defender. This means he was a player who helped protect his team's goal.

Hossein Mahini played for several football clubs in Iran. He started his senior career with Esteghlal Ahvaz. Later, he moved to Zob Ahan.

Playing for Persepolis

On July 7, 2012, Hossein Mahini joined Persepolis. This is a very famous team in Tehran, Iran. He was known for being fast and good at sending the ball across the field.

In 2014, he extended his contract with Persepolis. He stayed with the team until 2017. For a short time, he played for Malavan on loan. This was part of his national service. He returned to Persepolis in May 2016. Hossein Mahini left Persepolis on January 13, 2020. He had played for the team for seven years.

International Football Career

Hossein Mahini also played for his country, Iran. He was first chosen for the Iran national football team by coach Carlos Queiroz. Before that, he played for the Iran national under-23 football team. With the U23 team, he won a bronze medal. This was at the 2006 Asian Games.

In 2014, he was part of Iran's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This is a huge international football tournament. Hossein Mahini was a substitute player during the World Cup. This means he was ready to play if needed. Iran's team did not make it past the first round of the tournament.
