How Houcktown Started

Houcktown was first called North Liberty. In 1853, a person named Jacob F. Houck created a plan for the area. This plan, called a "plat," showed how the land would be divided. It included streets and lots for buildings.

The Post Office

A post office was opened in Houcktown in 1862. It helped people send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed down in 1903.

A Famous Resident

Houcktown is famous for being the birthplace of a well-known baseball player named Dummy Hoy. He was a very important player in baseball history. On April 5, 2022, a special sign was put up in Houcktown. This sign is a historic marker that honors Dummy Hoy and his connection to the community.
