The House of Bruce was a very important family in Scotland's history. They started as powerful lords in a place called Annandale. The most famous person from this family was Robert the Bruce. He became a great king of Scotland.
The Rise of Robert the Bruce
Robert the Bruce is known for leading the Scottish army to victory. He famously defeated the English army at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. This battle was a huge moment for Scotland. After this victory, Robert the Bruce became the King of Scotland. He ruled for many years, helping Scotland stay independent. King Robert the Bruce passed away in 1329.
The End of the Bruce Dynasty
After King Robert the Bruce died, his son, David II, became the next king. However, David II's rule was not always easy. He was even removed from power for a time by Edward Balliol. King David II later returned to the throne. He died at Edinburgh Castle when he was 46 years old. With his death, the direct line of the House of Bruce as kings of Scotland came to an end.
