A Look Back: Houston's History
The community of Houston has a simple but interesting past. It was officially planned and "laid out" in the year 1853. This means that its streets and plots of land were organized and mapped out.
Houston was named after an important person in the area's early days. His name was Leonard Houston, and he was one of the first settlers to live there.
For many years, Houston had its own post office. This post office opened in 1850 and helped people send and receive mail. It was a vital part of the community for over 60 years before it closed down in 1911.
