Howard Jones' Music Journey
Howard Jones began his music career in 1996 with an underground band called Driven. They released one album. After that, he joined Blood Has Been Shed and sang with them from 1997 to 2004.
Joining Killswitch Engage
In 2002, Howard became the new singer for Killswitch Engage. This happened after their previous singer, Jesse Leach, left the band. While Howard was with Killswitch Engage, they released two very successful albums. These albums, The End of Heartache and As Daylight Dies, sold so many copies that they earned "gold record" status. They also released another album called Killswitch Engage in 2009.
Howard left Killswitch Engage in 2012 after almost ten years. However, he remained good friends with the band members. He even worked with them again on a song called "The Signal Fire" from their album Atonement. His current band, Light the Torch, has also toured with Killswitch Engage. Sometimes, Howard joins Killswitch Engage on stage to sing "The Signal Fire" and other songs from his time with them, often singing along with Jesse Leach.
Starting New Bands
Howard started a new band called Devil You Know. He formed it with guitarist Francesco Artusato and drummer John Sankey. Later, John Sankey left the band. The remaining members decided to start fresh with a new name, Light the Torch, and added a new drummer.
In March 2021, Howard teamed up with heavy metal YouTuber Jared Dines and producer Hiram Hernandez. They released a song called "The Blade" as part of their new project, which they named Sion.
More recently, on December 3, 2024, Howard shared on his Instagram that he and his former Killswitch Engage bandmate, Adam Dutkiewicz, were almost finished mixing the first album for their new band, Burn Eternal.
Howard Jones' Life Outside Music
Howard Jones enjoys fishing a lot. He even owns land near the Red River of the North in Manitoba, Canada. He often appears as a guest on Jamey Jasta's podcast.
Focusing on Health
Howard left Killswitch Engage in early 2012 to better manage his type 2 diabetes. The busy life of touring made his health condition harder to control. In 2013, Howard shared that his diabetes once caused him to be in a coma for three days.
In 2015, Howard spoke about his long struggle with anxiety and depression. He explained that becoming famous with Killswitch Engage made these feelings worse. In 2018, he worked with his former bandmates to help raise awareness about mental health. The song "The Signal Fire" from the 2019 album Atonement was part of this effort.
