Huachacalla is a small town located in the country of Bolivia. It is part of the Oruro Department and specifically found within the Litoral Province. Huachacalla is important because it is the main town, or "seat," of the Huachacalla Municipality. This means it's where the local government for the area is based.
Understanding Huachacalla's Climate
The climate of a place describes its usual weather patterns over a long time. Huachacalla is located at a high elevation of about 3,740 meters (around 12,270 feet) above sea level. This high altitude means the town has a cool climate, especially at night.
Temperature and Seasons
Huachacalla experiences a cool, semi-arid climate. This means it doesn't get a lot of rain overall. The warmest months are typically from October to March, with average high temperatures around 19°C to 21°C (66°F to 70°F). The coolest months are from May to August, when high temperatures are closer to 16°C to 17°C (61°F to 63°F).
Nighttime temperatures can drop quite low, especially during the cooler months. From April to September, the average low temperatures are often below freezing, sometimes reaching as low as -9.8°C (14.4°F) in July. This shows a big difference between day and night temperatures.
Rainfall Patterns
Huachacalla has distinct wet and dry seasons. Most of the rain falls during the summer months in the Southern Hemisphere, from December to March. January is usually the wettest month, receiving about 135 millimeters (5.3 inches) of rain.
From May to August, the town experiences a very dry season, with almost no rainfall. This pattern is common in high-altitude regions like the Altiplano, where Huachacalla is located. The humidity also changes with the seasons, being higher during the rainy period.
