Hubert Davis is a talented Canadian filmmaker. He is known for making documentary films, which are movies that tell true stories. His very first film, called Hardwood, was a short documentary about his father, Mel Davis, who used to play for the famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team.

Hardwood was a big success! It was even nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Cultural and Artistic Programming. This made Hubert Davis the first Afro-Canadian person ever to be nominated for an Oscar.

In 2007, Hubert Davis won the Don Haig Award at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. This award is given to a top new Canadian director. He continued to make important films, including Invisible City in 2009. In 2012, he also made a short film called The Portrait for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
