Hardwood was a short documentary about his father, Mel Davis. His father used to be a famous basketball player for the Harlem Globetrotters. Hubert Davis was the first Afro-Canadian person to be nominated for an Oscar.

In 2007, Hubert won the Don Haig Award. This award is given to the best new Canadian director at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. This is a big festival for documentary films in Canada.
