The Story of Hudson City
Hudson City started as a place called Hudson Town. This town was created on April 12, 1852. It was formed from parts of a larger area called North Bergen Township.
Then, on April 11, 1855, Hudson City officially became its own city. This happened when parts of Hudson Town and North Bergen Township joined together to form the new city.
Becoming Part of Jersey City
Hudson City didn't stay its own city for very long. On May 2, 1870, something big happened. Hudson City and another nearby city, Bergen City, both joined Jersey City. This process is called "annexation," which means one place becomes part of another.
After this, the people of Jersey City started calling the former Hudson City area "The Heights." This name is still used today for that part of Jersey City.
