History of Hueysville
Early Post Office Services
A post office was first set up in Hueysville in 1858. It has mostly been known by the name Hueysville. However, for a short time from 1887 to 1889, the postmaster, Mike Staley, changed its name to Mike. Another post office called Bosco also served the area. It operated from 1902 to 1916. After that, its services were moved to the Hueysville post office.
Train Incident and Road Closure
On January 19, 1990, a train carrying coal had an incident near Hueysville. The train was going through a tunnel when it hit some rocks that had fallen. This caused the train to go off its tracks. Part of the tunnel was damaged.
Because the road Kentucky Route 550 goes over this tunnel, it had to be closed. The damage made the road unsafe for cars. Both the road and the train tracks stayed closed for a long time. This made it hard for people to travel between Hueysville and a place called Eastern. Many local businesses in Hueysville faced difficulties because of the reduced traffic.
