Hugh Despenser (born around 1337 or 1338 – died March 2, 1374) was an English soldier and knight from a long time ago. He was known for his military service.
Life of a Medieval Knight
Hugh Despenser was the second son of Edward Despenser and Anne Ferrers. His family was important in England during the Middle Ages.
As a knight, Hugh took part in battles. In 1370, he was with an English army in northwest France. During a fight, he was captured by the enemy. This was a common risk for soldiers during the Hundred Years' War, a long conflict between England and France. Hugh Despenser passed away on March 2, 1374, in a city called Padua in Italy.
Family and Children
Hugh Despenser married a woman named Alice, who was the daughter of John Hotham. Together, they had two children:
