Hugo Mbongue (born July 27, 2004) is a talented Canadian soccer player. He plays as a forward for San Antonio FC in the USL Championship. He is currently on loan from Major League Soccer team Toronto FC.
Early Life and Soccer Start
Hugo Mbongue started playing soccer at a very young age. He was just three years old when he joined the Cherry Beach Recreation Centre. A year later, he moved to Clairlea-Westview SC. He then played for the North Toronto Nitros. Later, he joined the Toronto FC Academy, which is a special training program for young soccer players.
Club Career Highlights
Hugo's professional journey began with Toronto FC II in 2021. This team plays in USL League One. He made his first game appearance on May 22, 2021. During the summer, he also played for Toronto FC III.
In 2022, Hugo joined the first team for their pre-season training. He even scored a goal in an exhibition match. His first official professional goal came on April 10, 2022. He scored two goals in one game for Toronto FC II in MLS Next Pro. On May 27, he signed his first professional contract with Toronto FC II. Before this, he was playing on an academy contract.
In September 2022, Hugo signed a special contract with the main team, Toronto FC. This is called a "Homegrown Player contract." It means he came up through their youth system. He made his debut for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer on October 9, 2022. In April 2023, he was loaned back to Toronto FC II to get more playing time.
In March 2024, Hugo was loaned to San Antonio FC. This team plays in the USL Championship. He scored his first goal for San Antonio FC in his very first game on March 23.
Playing for Canada
Hugo has also played for Canada's national youth teams. In 2019, he was part of the Canadian Under-15 (U15) team. He played in the 2019 CONCACAF Boys' Under-15 Championship. In their first game, he scored three goals, which is called a hat trick! Canada won that game 7-0 against El Salvador U15.
In June 2022, he was chosen to play for the Canadian Under-20 (U20) team. He competed in the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

Hugo Mbongue's family has roots in Cameroon, through his mother. He also has an older brother, Ralph Priso, who is also a professional soccer player.
