Hugo Mbongue's Early Life and Soccer Start
Hugo Mbongue started playing soccer when he was very young. He was just three years old when he joined the Cherry Beach Recreation Centre. A year later, at age four, he began playing with Clairlea-Westview SC. He then moved on to play for the North Toronto Nitros. After that, he joined the Toronto FC Academy, which is a special training program for young soccer players.
Hugo Mbongue's Club Career
Starting with Toronto FC II
In 2021, Hugo joined Toronto FC II, a team that helps young players get ready for professional soccer. He made his first game appearance on May 22, 2021. Later that summer, he also played for Toronto FC III.
In 2022, Hugo trained with the main Toronto FC team. He even scored a goal in a practice game! On April 10, he scored his first official professional goals, scoring twice in one game. On May 27, he signed his first professional contract with Toronto FC II.
Joining Toronto FC's Main Team
In September 2022, Hugo signed a special contract with the main Toronto FC team. This contract was a "Homegrown Player" deal, which means he came up through their own youth system. He made his first game appearance for the main team on October 9, 2022. In April 2023, he was loaned back to Toronto FC II to get more playing time.
Playing for Other Teams on Loan
In March 2024, Hugo was loaned to San Antonio FC for the 2024 season. He scored his first goal for them in his very first game on March 23. In March 2025, he was loaned to Lexington SC. Then, in July 2025, he was called back from Lexington and immediately loaned to Vancouver FC. This shows how different teams want him to play for them!
Hugo Mbongue's International Career
Hugo has also played for Canada's national youth teams. In 2019, he was part of the Canadian Under-15 team. In their first game, he scored three goals, which is called a hat trick! This helped his team win 7-0. In June 2022, he was chosen to play for the Canadian Under-20 team.

Hugo Mbongue's mother is from Cameroon, which means he has Cameroonian roots. He also has an older brother, Ralph Priso, who is also a professional soccer player. It's cool that both brothers play soccer professionally!
