Hugo del Carril (born Pierre Bruno Hugo Fontana on November 30, 1912 – died August 13, 1989) was a famous Argentine film actor, film director, and tango singer. He was a big star during the classic age of Argentine cinema and music.

Early Life of Hugo del Carril
Hugo del Carril was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His parents were quite wealthy. His mother, Orsolina Bertani, was from Argentina, and his father, Hugo Fontana, was an architect from Milan, Italy. Even though they had a comfortable life, his parents separated. Young Hugo then went to live with a family friend.
Hugo del Carril's Career
Hugo del Carril started his career as a popular voice on Argentine radio. This helped him move into films in late 1936. He quickly became a huge success and one of Argentina's most important film stars. He acted in about 50 films until he retired in 1976.
Becoming a Director
In 1949, Hugo del Carril also started directing movies. He often acted in, directed, and produced his own films. This made him one of the highest-earning people in the film industry at that time.
Famous Films and Music
In 1952, he directed a very famous Argentine film called Las Aguas Bajan Turbias. This title means "The Waters Run Murky" in English. He also created the "Peronist March" (Marcha Peronista). This song became the anthem for the Peronist political movement in Argentina.
Hugo del Carril was a strong supporter of the Peronist movement. After the Peronist government was overthrown in 1955, he was briefly banned from working and had to live in Mexico.
His 1961 film Esta tierra es mía (meaning "This Earth Is Mine") was shown at the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival. This showed his talent was recognized internationally.
