Early Life and Family
Hunter Tylo was born Deborah Jo Hunter in Fort Worth, Texas. Her parents are Jo Anne and Morris Jabez Hunter. She has said that her mother's family has Cherokee descent. Hunter has an older brother, Jay, who passed away in 2018, and a younger brother named Cliff. Early in her career, she was sometimes known as Deborah Morehart, which was her first husband's last name.
Acting Career
Hunter Tylo started her acting career in 1984. She appeared in a movie called The Initiation. After that, she became well-known for her roles in American daytime soap operas.
Early TV Roles
Her first TV appearance was in 1985 on All My Children. She left the show in 1988. In 1989, Tylo joined Days of Our Lives as Marina Toscano. This character was a bit of a troublemaker on the show. Tylo later shared that she didn't enjoy playing Marina because the character was not very popular. She left Days of Our Lives in 1990.
The Bold and the Beautiful
After feeling a bit discouraged about her acting career, Tylo thought about quitting. She even started studying to become a doctor at Fordham University in New York City. She completed two years of her degree. However, she was then offered the role of Dr. Taylor Hayes on The Bold and the Beautiful.
She wasn't sure at first, but she decided to take the part. She started playing Dr. Taylor Hayes in 1990 and continued to study at Fordham for a while. This role became her most famous. She played the character for many years, leaving and returning several times between 1990 and 2019.
In 2000, Hunter Tylo wrote a book about her life called Making a Miracle. She has also been named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People In The World" twice.
Important Lawsuit
In 1996, Tylo was offered a role in another TV show called Melrose Place. She decided to leave The Bold and the Beautiful for this new opportunity. However, the producer, Aaron Spelling, fired her before she even started filming because she announced she was pregnant.
Tylo quickly returned to The Bold and the Beautiful. She also decided to sue Aaron Spelling. She argued that it was unfair to fire her just because she was pregnant. A jury in Los Angeles agreed with her and she won a large amount of money.
During the trial, Tylo showed pictures of herself while pregnant, which proved she was still in good shape. This case became very important. It helped establish that actresses have the right to privacy during legal cases and the right to continue working even when they are pregnant.

She married her first husband, Tom Morehart, in 1980 when she was 17. They had a son named Christopher. They divorced in 1984.

Later, a tumor was found in Katya's other eye, but it mysteriously disappeared. Katya recovered and now uses a prosthetic right eye. Hunter and Michael Tylo divorced in 2005.
Sadly, in 2007, their 19-year-old son, Michael Tylo Jr., passed away in an accidental drowning. The authorities determined it was due to a seizure disorder.
