Huntley Ashworth Gordon (born October 8, 1879 – died December 7, 1956) was a Canadian actor. He started his acting journey during the time of silent films. These were movies without spoken dialogue, where actors used their expressions and body language to tell stories.

Huntley Gordon was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He went to school in both Canada and England. Before becoming an actor, he had many different jobs! He worked in a bank, in a silver mine, and even owned a cigarette factory. He also traveled a lot for work.

Eventually, he decided to become an actor on stage. He even performed with the famous actress Ethel Barrymore. He acted in plays on Broadway in New York City, like Life in 1914.

Starting in Movies

Huntley Gordon began his movie career in 1916. A movie producer named Thomas Ince gave him his first chance. Before acting, Huntley was also a model for a popular brand called Arrow Collars. A famous artist named J. C. Leyendecker even painted his picture!

During World War I, Huntley Gordon served in the Canadian Army. He was stationed in England, and that's where he started making movies. He had a very polite and charming way about him, along with classic good looks. This made him very popular in Hollywood, California. He acted in both silent films and later, talking films (movies with sound).

Hollywood Star

In Hollywood, Huntley Gordon appeared in many movies. He starred alongside famous actresses like Gloria Swanson in the 1923 film Bluebeard's 8th Wife. In the same year, he also acted with Norma Shearer in a movie called The Wanters.

Throughout his career, Huntley Gordon traveled between America and Britain. He made movies in both countries. He appeared in more than 120 films! He worked with MGM studios before he stopped making movies in 1940.

After retiring from films, he invested in a business that made silk stockings. This was a very good business at the time. Women in Canada and Britain had trouble getting silk stockings because of rationing during the Second World War. Even though he wasn't making movies anymore, Huntley Gordon stayed busy. He worked in network radio, which was very popular back then.

Huntley Gordon passed away from a heart attack in Van Nuys, California. He was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
