Hurdle Mills is a small community located in North Carolina, United States. It is found in both Person County and Orange County. This community sits on North Carolina Highway 157, southwest of a town called Roxboro. Hurdle Mills is about 614 feet (187 meters) above sea level. In 2010, about 3,770 people lived there.
History of Hurdle Mills
Hurdle Mills has an interesting past! It was first known as Daniel's Mill. This name came about in 1846 when a post office was set up there. William Daniel became the first postmaster. The original mill was built on the Flat River around this time.
In 1859, the name of the community changed to Hurdle's Mill. This happened because the Hurdle family bought the mill. Then, in 1892, the area was officially renamed Hurdle Mills.
Today, Hurdle Mills is home to the Triangle Area Polo Club.
