Hurleton is a small, unincorporated community in Butte County, California. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

Hurleton is located about 7.5 miles (12.1 km) north of another community called Bangor. It sits at an elevation of 1,598 feet (487 meters) above sea level. In August 2013, a large wildfire came close to Hurleton, and some people had to leave their homes temporarily to stay safe.

History of Hurleton

The community of Hurleton was started by a man named Smith H. Hurles. He moved to this area in the late 1800s and built a hotel. Because of him, the place began to grow.

The area was also known as the Boston Ranch. This name came about because Smith H. Hurles used to live in Boston, Massachusetts, before he moved to California.

The first post office in Hurleton opened in 1880. It was named Hurleton to honor Smith H. Hurles. He was also the very first postmaster, which is the person in charge of a post office.
