The Hyde Park Golf Club is a golf club located in Niagara Falls, New York. It was started in 1938 to help people enjoy the game of golf. The club also helps golfers make friends and have fun together. The golf course where the club plays was originally the site of the Niagara Falls Country Club, which opened in 1901.
History of the Hyde Park Golf Course
The golf course has a long history. It began in 1901 as the Niagara Falls Country Club. A businessman named Frank A. Dudley helped create it.
The first course had nine holes and is known today as the Red Nine. By 1916, the Country Club had grown a lot. It then moved from Niagara Falls to its current spot in Lewiston. The new course opened for play on June 1, 1919.
In 1938, the area became Hyde Park. A brand new 18-hole golf course was built for everyone to play. This new course was designed by William F. Gordon and David W. Gordon. The Hyde Park course in Niagara Falls, New York, is 6,255 yards long. It is a par 70 course.
In the late 1980s, another golf club called The Cataract Golf Club was formed. Both clubs were popular and had a friendly competition for over 15 years. Later, golf became less popular, and neither club could keep enough members on its own. So, the two clubs decided to join together. They chose to use the original name, Hyde Park Golf Club.
Local golfers sometimes call the course Niagara Falls National. This is because the course is kept in excellent condition. The club holds more than 20 tournaments each year. This includes a Club Championship. They also host the City Championship. The club has a special program for junior golfers. This program lets young players under 18 compete against other junior clubs.
Membership Benefits
Becoming a member of the Hyde Park Golf Club offers many benefits. Members can play in all club-sponsored tournaments. These include scheduled Tee Time Tournaments and Weekend Anyday Tournaments. There are also Match Play Tournaments and the Club Championship.
Membership also gives you a U.S.G.A. certified handicap. A handicap helps make the game fair for players of different skill levels. Members can also join Buffalo District and WNY Publinks golf tournaments. The club also hosts four dinners for members each year.
Junior members can join the club's Junior Club. They can also represent the Hyde Park Golf Club in the B.D.G.A. Junior League. This gives young golfers a chance to play and improve their skills.
Course Record
