The Niagara Falls Country Club is a special country club and golf course. It is located in the Lewiston Heights area of Lewiston, New York. This spot is just outside Niagara Falls, New York.

Club History and Beginnings

The Niagara Falls Country Club started in 1901. It was first located in Niagara Falls. A local businessman named Frank A. Dudley helped create the club. He was also its president four times.

Moving to a New Home

In 1916, the club moved to its current spot in Lewiston. This new area, Lewiston Heights, was also helped by Dudley and Paul A. Schoellkopf. The club sits high up on the Niagara Escarpment. The golf course officially opened on June 1, 1919. Alfred "Alf" Campbell was the first head golf professional there.

Amazing Views and Famous Tournaments

The club offers amazing views of nearby towns like Lewiston and Porter. You can even see parts of Canada, including Niagara-on-the-Lake and Toronto.

Since 1959, the Niagara Falls Country Club has hosted the Porter Cup. This golf tournament was first called the International Invitation. Many famous golfers have won the Porter Cup. These include PGA Tour stars like Phil Mickelson and Ben Crenhaw.

As of 2012, the club had about 365 members.

The Golf Course Experience

The Niagara Falls Country Club has an 18-hole championship golf course. It is a "par 70" course, which means a good golfer should finish it in 70 strokes. The course is about 6,621 yards long. It also has 90 tricky sand traps!

Course Design and Updates

The course was first designed in 1919 by A.W. Tillinghast. Later, it was updated by other famous designers. These included Robert Trent Jones Sr., Geoffrey Cornish, and Brian M. Silva.

Golfers can also use two large practice putting greens. There is also a driving range and a chipping green. These areas help players practice their skills.

Course Rankings

In 2011, the golf course was ranked as one of the best. It was the 6th best private golf course in Western New York. It was known for its unique greens. These greens have many ups and downs, making the game more challenging.

Tennis and Swimming Fun

Besides golf, the Niagara Falls Country Club offers other activities.

Tennis Courts

The club has four tennis courts. They are called Har-Tru courts and have lights for evening play. Many people say these are some of the best Har-Tru courts in Western New York. There is also a patio and a small tennis hut.

Swimming Pool

The club also has a large, Olympic-sized pool. It is right next to the Clubhouse. From the pool, you can also enjoy views of the Niagara Escarpment.
