i.d.e.a. Museum

The i.d.e.a. Museum is a special place where you can explore, learn, and create art. Its name, i.d.e.a., stands for "imagination, design, experience, art." The museum changed its name on February 6, 2014. While it's great for younger kids, it offers fun exhibits and activities for people of all ages.

Each year, the i.d.e.a. Museum features new art shows. It also has a special area called ArtVille, which is like a tiny art town for children aged 0 to 4. You can take art classes, join workshops, and enjoy family programs. These activities help you learn about art and different art techniques. The City of Mesa, Arizona runs the i.d.e.a. Museum. You can find it at 150 Pepper Place in downtown Mesa.

History of the i.d.e.a. Museum

The main goal of the i.d.e.a. Museum is to help kids of all ages see the world in new ways. It wants to inspire them through art, creativity, and imagination. The museum officially started in 1980. It was the dream of two people, Jack and John Whiteman, who loved helping their community.

When it first opened, it was called the Arizona Museum for Youth. It was the only children's museum in the United States focused on fine art. In 1987, the museum became a team effort. The City of Mesa and a group called the Arizona Museum for Youth Friends, Incorporated, began working together to support it.

Fun Activities and Spaces

The i.d.e.a. Museum is located in what used to be a grocery store from the 1950s. It has over 20,000 square feet of space for visitors. Inside, you'll find several exciting areas to explore.

  • The HUB Gallery: This is a hands-on area for all ages. You can build things with recycled materials or draw on a dry-erase marker wall. You can also create cool contraptions using a special building set called Rigamajig.

ArtVille: A Tiny Town for Little Ones

ArtVille is a special, ongoing exhibit just for children aged 0 to 4. It's designed like a small town where little kids can explore and play with art.
