The Journey to Solla Sollew
The story begins with a happy character who suddenly has a bad day. They trip over a rock and even get bitten by some animals! A traveler passes by and tells them about a city called Solla Sollew. This city is said to be completely free of troubles.
So, the main character decides to join the traveler on the journey to Solla Sollew. But the trip itself is full of new problems. Their animal gets sick, a bus breaks down, and a general even forces the character to join his army.
Facing Wild Poozers
During a battle, the army runs away, leaving the main character alone. They are left to face a group of wild creatures called Poozers! To escape, the character rushes into a dark tunnel. Inside the tunnel, they face many more challenges and mishaps. Finally, they find an exit door that opens right near Solla Sollew.
Reaching Solla Sollew
When the character reaches Solla Sollew, they find it's surrounded by a big wall. There's only one door to get in. The doorman explains that he can't open it. A creature called a Key-Slapping Slippard has made a nest in the keyhole!
Since the door can't be opened, the doorman decides to leave. He plans to find another trouble-free city he's heard about. But the main character chooses not to go with him. Instead, they decide to return home. They learn that it's better to face troubles head-on than to keep running from them.
Solla Sollew in Seussical
The story of Solla Sollew also appears in Seussical, a popular musical based on Dr. Seuss's books. In the musical, a character named General Genghis Kahn Schmitz shows up. He introduces a young character named JoJo to a military school through a song. This part of the story leads to JoJo getting lost in a pretend battle. General Schmitz in the musical is a mix of the general from this book and other generals from The Butter Battle Book.
The Song of Solla Sollew
Solla Sollew is also the name of a special song in Seussical. The main characters sing this song when they wish for a happy ending to their problems. They describe Solla Sollew as "a faraway land, so the stories all tell / somewhere beyond the horizon."
They believe that "troubles there are few" in Solla Sollew. They even say it might be "something like heaven." The characters dream of finding this amazing place. They imagine warm breezes and kind people. They hope to find each other there and be happy forever. However, the song also says, "when I get close, it disappears," showing that this perfect place is hard to find.
