Welcome to Pooh Corner was a fun TV show that mixed real actors with puppets. It showed the famous characters from the Winnie the Pooh stories. Actors wore big, human-sized puppet suits to bring characters like Pooh and Tigger to life! Only Roo was a smaller, traditional puppet.

The special puppet costumes were made by a company called Alchemy II, Inc. This company was led by Ken Forsse, who later created the popular toy, Teddy Ruxpin. The show first started on May 30, 1983. This was the very same day that The Disney Channel first launched! The show aired until June 9, 1986. Reruns of Welcome to Pooh Corner continued to be shown on The Disney Channel until May 30, 1997.

About the Show

Welcome to Pooh Corner was a special show for its time. It was one of the first programs to air when The Disney Channel began. It usually played at 8:30 in the morning. This made it the third show in the Disney Channel's daily lineup.

Who Voiced the Characters?

Some of the actors who voiced characters in the original Pooh cartoons also worked on this show. Hal Smith voiced Owl. He had been the voice of Owl for a long time in Disney's Winnie the Pooh stories. He also took over as the voice of Pooh Bear.

Will Ryan voiced Rabbit. He had started voicing Rabbit in a cartoon called Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore in 1983. The show's narrator was Laurie Main. He was also the narrator for Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore.

Where Did the Name Come From?

The name of the show, Welcome to Pooh Corner, comes from the second Winnie the Pooh storybook. This classic book is called The House at Pooh Corner. It's where many of the beloved characters and their adventures take place.
